MVDC’s recent office reshuffle wasn’t just about freeing up desk space. By redistributing surplus equipment, we uncovered plywood office cupboards that still had life in them. Rather than discard them, one of our own staff members saw an opportunity to transform these cupboards at their allotment plot into vibrant raised beds.

At the heart of this project is a creative twist on reuse. Here’s how the plywood cupboards became raised beds:

  • Dismantle the cupboards and remove any metal fittings
  • Reinforce the corners with weatherproof brackets
  • Line the interior with breathable landscape fabric
  • Fill with a mix of wood, cardboard, topsoil and compost

All assembly and planting took place on a staff member’s own allotment plot, turning office waste into a productive growing space.

If you have a story where you have been creative with how you reuse something that is destined for landfill we would love to hear about it. Please contact us using the contact for or email: sustainability@molevalley.gov.uk
