In the heart of Dorking, a group of makers, fixers and recyclers gather each week on a Thursday and Saturday mornings between 9am and 1pm, to turn scrap into something special. The Dorking Men’s Shed is more than a workshop. It’s a community built on creativity, connection and care for the planet.
Their projects range from bird boxes and hedgehog houses to shabby-chic trays crafted from reclaimed wood. Members have also built Windsor chairs, picture frames, park benches, butcher’s blocks and even intricate pieces using the lathe. What makes these creations remarkable isn’t just the craftsmanship, but the materials. Instead of buying new, they repurpose old furniture, salvage pallet wood and upcycle forgotten items.
Dorking Men’s Shed is a place where people come together to share skills, stories and support. It improves wellbeing, reduces loneliness and fosters a sense of purpose. At its core is a commitment to reuse and recycle, making sustainability second nature to its members.
In recognition of their dedication to preventing waste and giving new life to old materials, we’re proud to award Dorking Men's Shed the Waste and Recycling Badge. Their work proves that with a little ingenuity, even the most overlooked scraps can become something meaningful.
