On the 19th October, Dorking Community Orchard hosted an event at Denbies Wine Estate. Many of us have apple trees in our garden and in an effort to reduce waste Mole Valley residents and beyond were invited to bring surplus apples to be pressed into un-pasteurised apple juice.

Around 800,000 tonnes of fruit from personal trees goes unharvested annually each year. This is a fantastic initiative to help reduce waste. If you were unable to attend this year, there is lots of information included from The Orchard Project. Orchards make for a great habitat variety of wildlife and enrich our local landscape with a an array of biodiversity.

If you are interested in future community orchard events, please contact them though their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/dorkingorchard they have an annual Wassail chant happening in January 2025. If you would like to press your home-grown apples you can visit

We are proud to award Dorking Community Orchard with the Food and Drink Badge for their efforts in preventing local produce from going to waste. By finding value in resources that would otherwise end up in food or garden waste bins, they help preserve the delicious fruits and crops grown by our local trees, rather than letting them be lost during the recycling process.

We’d love to hear from you if you have a story you would like to share with us about how you are taking action to become more sustainable!
