On the 1st July Mole Valley for Business hosted a Networking Lunch with a focus on social value, this saw Abi from Atkins Realis speak about the impacts that can be gained from adding social value from business to support the local community and the impact this can have. This was a fantastic opportunity to network with local businesses and be inspired by their social value they are adding as well as meet charities that need much needed investment to keep the valuable work they are doing going.

The event explored ideas the main themes of social value: Social, Environmental & Economic and the value these can add within each core area.

Charities like MCR Pathways are always looking for mentors who spend an hour each week listening to and encouraging a young person in their school. The relationship that develops is what makes the difference. This can help a young person to build their confidence and discover their potential?

Community Fridge is stocked from food surplus from supermarkets – it has a range of food from bread and pastries to ripe fruit and vegetables. The idea is to reduce the amount of food going to landfill. Anyone can come and take what they need. Funding helps them prevent waste from going to landfill and ensures they can distribute this food around the community.

Local businesses such as Putty Cakes are providing a safe space for the community, and are proud to put the community at the centre of their business. From a pay-it-forward scheme for coffees and cakes, to running a free weekly bill clinic to help residents to reduce their weekly outgoings. Is just the start of what they offer the community.
