The Green Libraries Manifesto was set up in 2022 to support libraries with taking environmental action and inspiring their communities to build resilience. The Manifesto comprises of 7 pledges:

  1. To bring environmental sustainability to the heart of decision-making
  2. To innovate and evolve
  3. To work with communities
  4. To use their voice for more impact
  5. To work in partnership with other like-minded organisations
  6. To grow and share knowledge
  7. To support young people

Thanks to the work of the Green Champions for the Library service, Sarah and Peta, Surrey Libraries signed the Manifesto and committed to the pledges. Library-goers will be able to attend and learn from green events such as making bug hotels, composting talks, growing plants with under 5’s, and junk modelling.

We are proud to award Surrey Libraries with the Leading the Way Badge for driving change. As the heart of the community, the library is providing a positive example to promote sustainable behaviours to its users.
