Therfield School have an Eco Committee made up of students from year 7 to year 11 meeting every week to discuss improving the school and take part in community action. On 25th September, Mole Valley District Council organised a litter pick in North Leatherhead with the Eco Club and Leatherhead Community Hub. The streets surrounding Therfield School and Kingston Road Recreation Ground were free of rubbish once the group had finished! When litter is left on the streets, wildlife can be trapped or injured, and drains can get clogged and cause floods.
The Eco Club have also planted trees in the school grounds, raised money with a ‘Trash to Treasure’ stall, and look after a school vegetable garden. This group of students and teachers is not only making a sustainable difference to their school and local area, but they are also providing the next generation with a space to be passionate and the tools to help the planet.
Therfield School is always looking to get involved with local projects, previously collaborating with other schools, companies, and the council. To get in touch, find contact information on their webpage.
We are proud to award Therfield School with the Waste and Recycling Badge for properly disposing of rubbish found on the street and the Nature and Biodiversity Badge for preventing wildlife from being affected by this litter (alongside all the other wonderful projects the club is doing). These students are setting an example for keeping our streets clean and promoting sustainability.
